Frog Tree Farm is a multi-generational, Black-owned farm in northern Minnesota focused on racial justice, social justice and sustainability. Owners Peace and Michael grow trees, which are used to create wreaths, garlands and more to sell at markets and small retailers like the co-op. Peace and Michael met in college, and together, they shared a dream of owning and living on a farm. By planting trees, they’ve found a way to stay connected to the land. Beyond growing trees, Frog Tree Farm is a rentable retreat space for community leaders, students and families to reflect and renew under the canopy of evergreen trees.
Frog Tree Farm is committed to supporting small Black-owned businesses, and are actively involved in the MN Department of Agriculture’s Emerging Farmers Working Group, which plays a pivotal role in increasing the number of historically underserved and marginalized groups in agriculture. Michael, co-owner of Frog Tree Farm, is the facilitator for this working group. Since this initiative began in 2019, it has led to the establishment of the first Emerging Farmers Office of its kind in the country.
Frog Tree Farm is Minnesota Agricultural Water Quality Certified, holds the Minnesota Department of Agriculture Climate Smart Endorsement, is a certified Minority, Woman & Small Business Enterprise with Hennepin & Ramsey Counties and the Cities of Minneapolis & Saint Paul, and is certified with the National Minority Supplier Development Council.
